POWER Rolls out High-Impact Exterior Doors in Select Territories

Power Home Remodeling has added high-impact doors to its home services catalog in select Florida counties.

Miami-Dade and Broward require High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) rated entry doors. These doors offer extreme impact resistance, are made with durable materials, and include water- and air-infiltration seals. HVHZ-certified doors have passed the industry’s most rigorous testing.

Since POWER expanded to our Fort Lauderdale market in 2023, we’ve worked to offer entry doors that meet HVHZ standards. Through our partnership with Pella, we now offer HVHZ-rated doors in both counties, so that homeowners can better protect their homes with POWER.

Can I Have an HVHZ-rated Entry Door Installed?

To qualify for installation, the door system must be approved for:

– A prescribed fastener schedule anchoring the frame to the building structure
– Large missile impact resistance
– Positive and negative design pressures
– Cyclic wind-pressure testing
– Water and air infiltration
– A specific frame, threshold, hinges, lock hardware, and glass configuration

What Makes a Door HVHZ Certified?

All HVHZ doors are impact-rated, but not all standard impact-rated doors meet localized HVHZ code requirements. Here are the components that make an impact-rated door HVHZ-approved:

– If the door has glass, it is impact glass.
– An extra layer of fiberglass is woven within the door panel; this is the biggest component for HVHZ approval.
– The manufacturer provides the fastener schedule, which specifies how the door frame must be anchored to the home.

What Types of HVHZ Doors Does POWER Offer?

We proudly offer seven different HVHZ door styles: four without glass and three with glass. We also offer three different glassed sidelight styles. Customers can customize their new HVHZ doors with 12 different colors and various hardware options!

The most important thing when looking at HVHZ doors is that the approval standard applies to the entire installed assembly, not just the door slab. The specific model, size, glass, frame, hardware, and installation method must match its Florida Product Approval or Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance.
