Spring Cleaning: How to Best Clean Your Window Screens

How-To Spring Cleaning: How to Best Clean Your Window Screens

It’s that time of year again when flowers bloom, the sun lingers a little longer, rain rolls in, and cleaning your home suddenly feels like a seasonal ritual. The “spring clean” is inevitable.

And as spring arrives, so do pollen, debris, bugs, and all the other unwelcome elements that cling to your home’s exterior—especially your window screens.

Below, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about how to clean your window screens and keep them in top shape all season long.

Why You Need to Clean Window Screens (and How Often)

After months of buildup in debris, dust, and dirt, cleaning your window screens might feel like a thankless task, but it makes a noticeable difference. After a good clean, you’ll never want to go back.

For households affected by allergies or respiratory sensitivities, this step is especially important during spring cleaning, as screens can trap and circulate irritants.

The best time to clean window screens is after peak pollen season. Otherwise, your hard work may quickly be undone. That said, you should deep clean your window screens twice a year. A deep clean includes a good scrub with water, soap, and time to dry.

For regular routine care, vacuum your window screens using a fine-bristle brush.

Tips for How to Clean Window Screens Efficiently

Supplies Needed:

Step-by-Step Guide:

  3. Before washing, vacuum or dust the screens to remove loose dirt and debris
  4. Scrub both sides of the screen with a brush or sponge
  5. Rinse both sides of the screen thoroughly with clean water at a low-pressure setting
