Powered by Purpose: Second Nature

Culture Powered by Purpose: Second Nature

Back in 2024, POWER’s Brand team at HQ hosted its first-ever Brand Spark, an internal creative competition designed with the goal of generating ideas to help tell the POWER Brand story while making our business and communities better.

After six months and hundreds of ideas, the team of ten eventually developed their individual projects and pitched them to POWER executives. Only a few ideas were approved to move forward into production, with a POWER Brand Project Manager being the first.

Sami Nigro knew she wanted her Brand Spark idea to be about making art in some way. So, when she stumbled upon an online post about broken glass turned into a mosaic, she knew she had found her core idea: a way to use waste to give back to the community.

“I wanted to get creative with it while also supporting local artists. I then started researching individual artists in different cities, and the idea snowballed from there!” Sami and the team intentionally located two artists in completely different parts of the country because, just as making a difference is national, so is POWER’s footprint.

With the help of POWER’s Community Impact team, locations and partners were identified to maximize the art’s impact on the community. Using materials from jobsite waste removed from the home during renovation, artists Amberella and Nataly Parson turned waste into real impact.

Amberella & The Boys and Girls Club of Chester

Amberella is an artist based in Philadelphia, but her art is in public spaces all over the world. She is known for her iconic heart art, in which she shares inspirational and motivational messages on streets and sidewalks.

Amberella’s mosaic was made for The Boys and Girls Club of Chester. The students were able to choose the heart message themselves: “Be You”, it says. This powerful message and beautiful mosaic have a new home on the outside of Chester’s Boys and Girls Club.

Nataly Parson & The Rise School of Denver

The second artist, Nataly Parson, is a Russian mosaic artist based in Colorado. After immigrating to the United States with her family and experiencing financial hardships, she turned to mosaic-making for a sense of calm and found her passion. Her mosaic was made to have a home at The Rise School of Denver, an early childhood center serving kids with and without disabilities.

Nataly decided to create an ocean-themed glass mosaic for them to evoke a feeling of peace. Now hanging in the school entrance, Nataly hopes her art inspires students to be more creative and pursue their passions.

This was not a quick process; it had been almost two years since Sami’s original Brand Spark idea. “I felt really proud to be deeply involved in something meaningful that could give back to two different communities, both through repurposing waste and also supporting the arts,” she said. “It was such an honor to be part of something that can give people joy and evoke emotion.”

Members of Power’s Brand Creative Team flew to Colorado and spent time with Amberella in Philly to put together an amazing video capturing the fruition of Sami’s idea. In an unexpected turn of events, the video won not one, but two, Telly Awards! With over 10,000 submissions, Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies, and publishers worldwide. And POWER’s Brand Creative Team is one of them.

Sami’s favorite part of the process was seeing the two final pieces revealed for the first time and watching everyone’s reactions. “Being able to see the physical manifestation of our efforts confirmed that the hard work and time spent was 100% worth it.”
