Get to Know Ty Peltzman, POWER’s Senior Vice President of People

Culture Get to Know Ty Peltzman, POWER’s Senior Vice President of People

POWER knows a thing or two about developing great leaders, like Ty Peltzman, Senior Vice President of People. Ty’s tenure at the company spans 16 years, opening new offices, transforming department infrastructure, and developing his own bench of leaders inside of POWER.

Ty has played an integral role in not only cultivating a stronger culture at POWER, but helped to build a better business. Let’s get to know him a bit more.

Fast Facts:

Hometown: Huntington Valley, PA
Places lived: Connecticut, Chicago, and now Philadelphia
Bucket list: I would love to go on an African safari with my family.
Secret obsession: Anything to do with space. There’s something about it that’s just so interesting — it’s huge, you can see back in time, and there’s just so much we don’t know. If someone guaranteed that the mission would be successful, I’d leave tomorrow at 9 a.m. sharp.
Favorite show: Game of Thrones
Favorite sports team: The Philadelphia Eagles…and The Nordiques, the hockey team I’m on, which is part of the annual POWER Hockey Tournament.
Hobby: I love traveling more than anything. I think it teaches you a lot about people, values, and culture. My favorite place I’ve ever visited is Istanbul, Turkey.
Go-to snack: Anything salty, I’m not a sweets person.
Cups of coffee consumed per day: I used to drink two Venti coffees a day, but I’m convinced the caffeine stopped working. Now, it’s just one coffee, cream no sugar — always hot; not an iced guy.

Prior to POWER

My career plan… didn’t include working for a home remodeling company, that’s for sure! After graduating from The University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Finance, I landed a job at an investment bank on Wall Street in New York. When the stock market crashed shortly after in 2008, that bank went out of business and I was let go from the job before I even had started my first day. I ended up at a real estate investment bank in Philadelphia.

I found POWER through… my best friend of 25+ years, Jake Lieberman, who is now a Regional Senior Vice President of Sales. While I was working at the real estate investment bank, Jake and I ran into a high school friend, Stephen Marbury, during a night out in Atlantic City. He was telling us all about a home remodeling company that his brother, Lee, was working for. Jake was in need of a job, so Lee referred him to come work at POWER. After Jake started at POWER, all I heard them talk about was this company and its potential. They basically persuaded me to come work with them, so I left my job at the investment bank and started at POWER in 2009 as an entry-level remodeling consultant.

The Fast Track to Leadership

Opening a new POWER office… was my North Star from the get-go. POWER was growing and my goal was to step into a leadership role to help the business scale. I could do that through opening an office and helping the business enter into a new market. It shaped the way I showed up everyday; I was working to become the best leader I could be, not just the best at the role I was currently in. I was always looking at the bigger picture. Seven months in, Jake and I were asked to open POWER’s Connecticut territory. With the success of leading that office for two years, the partners asked us to then open and lead a new office in Chicago as Vice Presidents.

The early years taught me… how to learn from my mistakes. Jake and I were 23 year-old kids when we opened Connecticut. While we were ultimately successful, we didn’t do things perfectly, and wanted to learn and continuously improve. Opening POWER’s Chicago office would give us the opportunity to do that.

Chicago was… a fresh start. Jake and I were so committed to doing things better. We wanted to hire good people, and develop them into great leaders. We wanted to a be a high-earning, high-performing office. We wanted to foster a culture where people felt supported and excited to come to work every day. In eight years, we did all of those things.

Pursuing a New Path

In 2018… things shifted. I moved back to POWER’s headquarters and spent a year working in the Contact Center — a business unit that is such a huge part of our infrastructure — learning each role within the department. When the pandemic hit in 2020, it forced our business and our leadership team to really adapt and take on new roles, including me. Looking back, it was hard for me to understand why I was specifically asked to step up within that business vertical; I didn’t really know what larger plan was in the works for me. Still, I spent the next three years engrained in every role to support the division’s continued development.

A pivotal moment in my career was… in 2023, when POWER’s partners introduced a new business structure where senior vice presidents (SVPs) would oversee various regions and business units.

I thought I was getting fired when… I was in a meeting with POWER leadership, and our co-CEO Corey Schiller wrote out the regions and business units on a white board, and assigned SVPs to each region. He continued to not write my name, and I remember thinking… ‘am I getting fired?’ That’s until he wrote Talent Acquisition on the board, and then my name underneath as SVP of Talent Acquisition. Now, my time in the Contact Center made sense. I would take everything I learned in the Contact Center and recreate it in Talent Acquisition — a division that plays such a critical role in POWER’s growth by hiring people.

POWERing Our People

Joining an entirely new business unit was… overwhelming to say the least! This team was responsible for processing hundreds of thousands of applications and keeping up with the hiring demand because of POWER’s rapid growth. There were a lot of things to redesign and restructure so that this division could better support the fast track that POWER was on.

Career paths aren’t always… linear. Every role and position you hold has a purpose. I always say that Corey and Asher, our co-CEOs, Mr. Miyagi-ed me when they asked me to spend years in the Contact Center (and yes, I am dating myself with that Karate Kid reference from back in 1984.) I know now that it was strategic; I learned everything about call queue management, prioritization, and database structure, which I was then able to implement into Talent Acquisition. We created a new organizational structure, developed a new mentor training program, built a new application tracking system and technologies, and diversified our hiring platforms. All of this was made possible because of the great leaders already inside of the department like Nick Falcone, Ali Stahr, and Max Brown.

I didn’t realize that… more change was coming. With my role in Talent Acquisition, I was working  really closely with POWER’s Chief People Officer, Hollie Delaney, who had a vision to not only restructure POWER’s People or HR-facing departments into a more unified division, but de-stigmatize the perception people have of HR. With that, came the newly formed People Business Unit with entirely new teams (read more about POWER’s People Division), giving me the opportunity to take on more responsibility. Now, as SVP of People, I oversee People Recruitment and People Development — one of our newer People teams — alongside James Boscia and Clayton Still.

As SVP of People, I… make sure that we’re hiring people who align with our values, and take care of those people throughout their career at POWER.

My leadership style is… leading through collaboration. I want everyone’s voice to be heard.

The Person Behind the Title

My morning routine starts with… my alarm going off at 5:45 a.m., and then I’m in the gym. I get my kids ready for school and then I’m off to work. My wife and I both work, so I take the morning shift and she tackles after school since I typically get home late.

A piece of advice I’d give my younger self is… longevity is about doing things right, not fast. Challenge yourself to see what your true potential is and what you’re capable of; everybody has limits, but it’s important to find out what yours are, then push yourself past them.

The biggest influences in my life are… people that I can learn something from. Up until this point that’s been Asher, Corey, Adam, Tim, Hollie, JC, Jake, my wife, my parents and siblings — in no particular order.

Being a dad is… amazing. It’s incredibly hard, but that’s because being a dad matters so much — especially when you have two little girls. I want to make sure that I’m showing them what love really looks like, and be an example for what they should expect for themselves as they grow.

I’d love to have dinner with… Barack Obama. Jake and I actually got to meet him, and that was the only time in my life I have ever been star struck. Jake actually forgot his own name.

My walk up song is… Above the Clouds by Gang Starr.

My dream Quest lineup, dead or alive is… Kid Cudi (which I said before he was ever announced, for the record!), The Roots, and Tame Impala.

The best jokester in the c-suite is… J.D., but that’s the best of the bad options…kidding! (see that was funny!)

If I won the lottery, I’d… invest in all of the things my family and friends were passionate about to help as many people realize their dreams as possible.

One word to describe POWER’s culture… family.
