POWER’s 20th Leadership Conference: A Recap

In late June, over 700 POWER employees gathered in Austin, Texas, for a three-day Leadership Conference, focusing on personal growth, professional development, and giving back to the community. This year’s theme? Handcrafted. Because POWER doesn’t just renovate homes; it builds leaders across all business units.

Starting Strong

Austin Leadership welcomed POWER leaders with an opportunity to give back — attendees assembled hygiene kits for the Boys and Girls Club of Austin and the African American Youth Harvest Foundation in honor of Juneteenth.

Leaders Are Built, Not Born

Written by POWER people for POWER people, Built Not Born Volume 2 is a book focused on leadership lessons told through the lens of a cross-section of company executives. The phrase, “Built Not Born,” is a cornerstone of POWER’s belief system. Fundamentally, we consider every POWER employee to have the potential to lead, and we actively cultivate that potential into confident, capable leaders.

To receive Built Not Born Volume 2, attendees donated a children’s book to the Austin-based nonprofit BookSpring, the “leading Central Texas organization focusing on building literacy skills and the motivation to read through increasing home libraries and reading aloud activities for children.”

Over the two-day conference, authors of Built Not Born Volume 2 spoke about their chapters. They shared even more wisdom on topics ranging from empathy to perseverance to culture to navigating hardships.

An Outside Perspective

Surprise guest, Nick Saban, former Alabama football coach and current ESPN sportscaster, spoke with POWER’s Co-CEO Asher Raphael about his experiences and lessons learned as one of the greatest football coaches of all time. Saban’s ideology mirrored POWER’s, as he shared that winning teams are built, not born.

Beyond the Conference Room

The excitement extended beyond the speaking sessions, with evening receptions across iconic Austin sites, such as Central Machine Works, a 1940 airplane hangar turned rustic brewery and entertainment space. The historic location and live music showcase from local artists provided the perfect post-event hangout.

In addition, morning activities consisted of a silent disco walk-and-run across the city, as well as bookmark-making at our very own BYO craft bar. If guests wanted downtime, Recovery Unplugged hosted a sound bath meditation and song healing session.
