How to Prep for Exterior Home Installation Day

How-To How to Prep for Exterior Home Installation Day

It’s exciting, it’s new, but it can also be messy and loud. When prepping for POWER to help you achieve your dream home, there are a few things to keep in mind prior to installation day.

No installation scheduled yet? Explore our exterior remodeling services and receive a free estimate from our experts to start planning your project.

Declutter and Organize

Before any exterior remodeling service, like a window or roof replacement, it is important to clear the space of any items that could get in the contractor’s way or could be damaged. For window replacements, make sure to remove blinds or curtains. Hammering and drilling can cause vibrations on the walls, so move any nearby frames or hanging items, as well as any loose papers that the wind could pick up. If access to the attic is needed, ensure there is a clear pathway and all storage and valuables are either covered or moved. Rule of thumb: if you would be upset if it got damaged, then protect or move it!

Outdoor Maintenance

For siding and roof projects, clear a 15-foot radius around the house so the contractors have easy access. Clear any toys or patio furniture that could be tripped on. If you have shrubs or plants that are potentially blocking access to windows or siding, try to trim them as much as possible. If you have flowers you want to be protected, make sure to mark them clearly to avoid accidental stepping on. For siding replacement, turn off exterior power if you have any. Live wires and electrical outlets can be dangerous for contractors as they work on your home.

Clear Driveway

Before installation begins, make sure to clear your driveway of cars so that the team has unobstructed access to their work. Or if your driveway isn’t conducive, make sure the street parking in front of your house is cleared for them to park in. Notify your neighbors, too, if needed, so that you can ensure the space is left clear.

If the crew needs to grab tools or ladders, it would be courteous to help shorten their walking distance from the truck to your home. Some projects might require a dumpster, as well.

Create a Plan for Kids and Pets

Although POWER people love meeting families and furry friends, we know the work can be loud and disruptive. Keep pets in a separate room while the work is being done, especially if they are reactive or aggressive. Make sure to keep an eye on your children and encourage them to stay inside during the construction. Roofing and siding replacement can cause a lot of falling debris, so ensure the safety of your loved ones and inform them of the dangers associated with interrupting construction work.

 Expect Some Noise or Disruption

The best things in life don’t come easy. New siding, roofing, solar, windows, doors, or insulation installation can cause disruptions in your day-to-day peace and quiet. If you work  from home and will be bothered by the noise, consider an alternative location, such as a coffee shop or library.
