How POWER’S Unexpected Allyship Supported The Rise School Of Denver

At Power Home Remodeling (“POWER”), every employee is encouraged to use their POWER for Good to better the community in which they serve. Read on to learn more about how a typical sales call led Remodeling Consultant Mentor, Wesley Roe, to impact a Denver-area non-profit, The Rise School of Denver.

SEEING A WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY

POWER people are driven by a sense of deeper purpose. While helping homeowners and exceeding monthly goals is what every employee aims to achieve—how they use their time and energy to support their community plays a major role in their day-to-day life. Throughout the 33-year history of POWER, the company has proven time and time again that service and sales can work hand in hand.

Making an impact at POWER can come through one of six “POWER for Good” platforms that incorporate a variety of entryways for community service. Our philanthropic programs are 100% employee-directed, so every POWER person has an opportunity to see themselves reflected in the company’s giving. As such, any interaction with someone outside the company walls can be a potential call to action.

For Wesley Roe, his spark to service came during a routine sales call to Laura Ganguli in the greater Denver Area. Between custom window measurements, paperwork, and a style consultation, Ganguli mentioned that she was a Music Therapist at the Rise School of Denver, an inclusive non-profit preschool serving children 12-months to five years with and without developmental disabilities.

Being a proponent of inclusion efforts himself, Roe immediately knew the Rise School of Denver would be a great candidate for a “Circle for Good” grant. “Circle for Good” is based around the collective giving model of giving circles, where individuals with shared values gather to pool funding to give to an organization addressing key issues within their community. POWER brought this concept in-house, by seeding funding in 21 of POWER’s offices, and empowering them to create one-year partnerships with a non-profit aligned with their passions. Roe mentioned the Rise School of Denver could be eligible for a grant if they aligned on the needs POWER’s Denver office wanted to make an impact on. POWER has committed $3.2 million in grants to local non-profits across the country. Ganguli took that information to Executive Director, Megan Gallagher, who submitted the Rise School of Denver’s application.

SIGNED, SEALED, AND DELIVERED

The grant proposal was quickly reviewed and selected, providing a year-changing amount of $100,000, an invaluable contribution that keeps education and therapy services affordable and accessible to all families—including Wesley’s—who’s son will be attending the school in August. What began as a simple knock on the door turned into a special bond for two organizations who want to make the world a better place.
